The Business Registration Service (BRS) is facing a cybersecurity scare after reports surfaced about a possible data breach in its company registry system.
In a statement on Sunday, BRS Director General Kenneth Gathuma acknowledged the situation, reassuring the public that investigations are already in motion.
“Our cybersecurity experts, alongside law enforcement and investigative agencies, are working tirelessly to understand the full scope of this incident,” Gathuma said. “We are assessing the potential impact and putting every necessary measure in place to contain and mitigate any risks.”
While the agency is still verifying the details—such as what data may have been compromised—Gathuma promised transparency throughout the process.
"Once we have a clearer picture, we will provide a full update and directly reach out to anyone affected," he assured.
As the official custodian of Kenya’s company registry, BRS safeguards crucial business information, including company names, directors’ details, business activities, and contact information. Given the sensitivity of this data, concerns are running high.
In response, Gathuma emphasized that BRS has already strengthened its security measures to prevent any further vulnerabilities.
"We take this matter seriously and are fully committed to handling it with diligence and transparency," he stated.
For now, businesses and individuals with registered entities are being urged to stay vigilant and await further communication from BRS.
