KWS Unveils Nationwide Recruitment Drive for Cadets & Rangers in 2024

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) made a significant announcement on Tuesday, March 19, revealing plans for the recruitment of 1,500 cadets (Assistant Warden I) and rangers across the nation.

According to an official notice from KWS, the recruitment process is scheduled to take place from Monday, April 15, to Friday, April 19, 2024, in various locations throughout the country.

The recruitment drive aims to enlist 1,500 energetic individuals who are willing to endure the rigorous conditions of training and deployment to diverse conservation areas, addressing the prevailing wildlife protection challenges faced by the nation.

Outlined in the recruitment notice, the exercise is open to all qualified Kenyan citizens, with no application fees required.

Cadet Requirements

Prospective cadets must be Kenyan citizens aged 28 years and below, in sound health, and with no criminal history. Academic qualifications include a minimum of a Bachelor's degree with second-class honors, lower division, in fields such as Wildlife Management, Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science, and more, from recognized institutions.

Shortlisted candidates will undergo mandatory paramilitary training lasting nine months before deployment.

Ranger Requirements

Similar to cadet applicants, ranger candidates must be Kenyan citizens, possess a Kenya National Identity Card or passport, and be aged between 18 and 26 years. They must also demonstrate physical and medical fitness with a clean criminal record. Academic qualifications entail a minimum of a D plain in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.

Ranger candidates must originate from the county of recruitment and will undergo six months of mandatory paramilitary training before field deployment.

KWS encourages graduates of the National Youth Service (NYS) who meet the specified requirements to apply for both cadet and ranger positions.

Application Procedure

Individuals interested in applying for cadet and ranger positions are instructed to obtain the prescribed application form, free of charge, from their nearest KWS National Park/Station or download it from the official KWS website, www.kws.go.ke.

Applicants must complete the application form and submit it along with academic certificates, testimonials, and a National ID Card/Passport at the designated recruitment center. Original academic certificates, testimonials, and identification documents must be presented for verification during the recruitment process.
