Former Public Service CS Justin Muturi has made a bold admission — he regrets ever supporting President William Ruto.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Muturi, who was once one of Ruto’s trusted allies, expressed disappointment in how things turned out after he joined Ruto’s camp ahead of the 2022 elections.
“I deeply regret ever supporting William Ruto,” he wrote.
“I will always respect former President Uhuru Kenyatta. He was firm but fair, a leader who listened, embraced differing views, and never ruled with fear.”
Muturi added that he and Uhuru Kenyatta remain friends to this day, underscoring a personal bond that survived political shifts.
A Long Political Journey Cut Short
Muturi served as Speaker of the National Assembly for 10 years under Uhuru. As the 2022 election neared, he switched allegiance and supported Ruto, then Deputy President.
After Ruto’s victory, Muturi was appointed Attorney General, then moved to head the Public Service Ministry.
But the relationship soured after the recent Gen Z-led protests rocked the country — and more personally, when Muturi’s son was abducted during the unrest.
Fallout After Son’s Abduction
Muturi claims his son was picked up in the heat of the protests. He says he wrote to the President demanding answers — and even stopped attending Cabinet meetings in protest.
He also alleges that after overhearing a phone call between President Ruto and the National Intelligence Service Director General, his son was suddenly released.
That experience, Muturi says, was a turning point.
Now Working With the Opposition
Since being fired from the Cabinet a few months ago, Muturi has aligned himself with opposition leaders, including Rigathi Gachagua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua, and Eugene Wamalwa.
His defection signals a possible political reawakening ahead of 2027, as more leaders grow disillusioned with the current administration.
