As schools reopened for the second term on May 8, parents and guardians accompanied their children to different shops to purchase school uniforms and other commodities.
However, some of the parents say the hard economic times are making them unable to take their children to school.
One of the parents at Kibabii Girls Boarding Primary School Omar Abdala says the current economy is not favourable for the common mwananchi.
He claims President William Ruto’s government has failed to fulfil their campaign manifestos.
“As Kenyans, we are very annoyed with how the administration is running its affairs, we can’t live in such a country with a poor economy,” he said.
Omar disagreed with the government’s proposal to raid people's salaries with an increase in taxes saying that in the future Kenya’s economy is going to be affected even further.
He pleaded with the government to maintain the fuel prices arguing that if the cost of fuel is hiked everything will be brought to a standstill.
Kibabii Girls headteacher Elizabeth Wabwoba said schools with a huge population are going through challenges to cater for the learners.
Wabwoba said that CBC is a good curriculum but it is facing a lot of challenges in its implementation.
“CBC has allowed our learners to identify and specialize in athletics, music or drama and has helped the school perform well in their co-curricular activities,” she said.
According to the Ministry of Education calendar, term two begins on May 8 and ends on August 11.
