Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner touched down at Moscow's Vnukovo Airport on Saturday, where they were received by Russian diplomat Kirill Dmitriev before heading to Kyiv the following day for talks with President Volodymyr Zelensky.
President Trump told reporters that the duo were bringing a proposal aimed at ending the conflict, although no details of the plan have been disclosed and neither Washington nor the Kremlin have commented on the content of the meetings.
According to US outlet Axios, the envoys are expected to meet both President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and President Zelensky in Kyiv, a move that follows a recent visit by CIA director John Ratcliffe to the Russian capital.
Russian state media, citing the Kremlin, said Putin had ordered a three‑day cease‑fire on Kyiv starting at midnight in response to the US delegation, while Zelensky accused Russia of carrying out "demonstrative" strikes on Kyiv and Boryspil airports as a reaction to the planned US arrival.
Zelensky also reported an overnight Russian attack on a civilian building in the Dnipropetrovsk region that killed four people and injured five, and he reiterated his call for reciprocal safety guarantees for the envoys' travel through Russian‑controlled airspace.
