Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino on Tuesday fired back at Uganda's President Yoweri Museveni, who accused him of collaborating with Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, to incite anarchy in Uganda.
In a statement, the outspoken MP clarified that his alliance with Bobi Wine was aimed at liberating Africans from oppressive leadership.
Owino emphasized that it is the duty of African leaders to address the challenges facing their nations. He noted that his own experience growing up in poverty had instilled in him a deep understanding of the struggles faced by the electorate, driving his pursuit of just and effective leadership.
"As Babu Owino, I advocate for a democratic society where a child in Kenya has access to proper healthcare, education, and employment opportunities," Owino stated. "Similarly, a child in Uganda deserves the same rights and treatment as a child in Kenya."
The MP vowed to continue advocating for better leadership, undeterred by criticism. He also acknowledged President Museveni's support for Raila Odinga's bid for the African Union Commission chairperson position.
Owino's remarks come shortly after Museveni accused him of playing a role in the recent anti-government protests in Uganda. While addressing delegates at the launch of Odinga's AU Commission Chairperson bid in Nairobi, Museveni claimed that Owino was working with Bobi Wine to undermine his administration.
"There are some individuals in Raila’s group whom I believe are misguided," Museveni remarked. "I am well-informed through intelligence reports, and every time I see Babu, I recognize his involvement with an anti-Ugandan group, which is why I singled him out."
