KMTC Moves Student Transfers and Course Changes Online

Students at Kenya’s leading medical training institution will now handle key academic requests online, in a shift officials say is meant to simplify processes and reduce paperwork.

The Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) announced on Tuesday that all applications for deferment of studies, course changes and campus transfers must be submitted through its official admissions portal.

The move ends the need for students to visit campuses in person, a step the college says will make the process faster and more transparent.

“Requests for a change of campus, a change of course, or a deferment of studies are now submitted through the official KMTC admissions portal,” the institution said in a statement.

Under the new system, students must log in using their credentials, select the service they need, and submit the required details. Once filed, the application remains marked as “submitted” until reviewed by the admissions office.

Applicants will receive a decision via text message once the review is complete.

But the college cautioned that approval is not guaranteed. Requests to switch courses or campuses will depend largely on whether space is available.

Popular programmes and campuses are likely to remain competitive, leaving some students with limited options.

KMTC also confirmed that deferment requests for the September 2026 intake have already closed. Students seeking to postpone their studies will need to explore other avenues.

The announcement comes as institutions across Kenya continue to digitise student services, a trend accelerated by demand for faster and more accessible systems.

At the same time, the college raised concern about a rise in fraudulent admission letters circulating online. Officials urged students to rely only on official communication channels and report suspicious documents.

Education analysts say the shift to digital platforms can improve efficiency, but warn that institutions must ensure systems remain accessible to students with limited internet access.

For now, KMTC says the new approach is about clarity and control — giving students a single, verifiable channel for managing their academic requests.
