Cabinet Secretary for Trade, Moses Kuria, expressed his dissatisfaction with the media for not reporting on his early morning routine. Taking to Twitter, Kuria complained that despite waking up at 3 a.m. every day to work on initiatives aimed at improving the economy, the media has not given it any coverage.
“Every day, I wake up very early at 3 o'clock in the morning to do extraordinary things to enhance the economy. The media cannot report on that. So, I have decided to carry on," Kuria wrote.
The outspoken politician added that he will continue with his work to improve the economy, regardless of whether the media reports on it or not.
"Firstly, I will continue working to improve the economy, whether the media reports it or not," Kuria said.
However, many found it ironic that Kuria wanted media coverage of his activities while having previously made derogatory remarks and accusations against the media over the past two weeks.
It should be noted that two weeks ago, Kuria engaged in a dispute with the Nation Media Group, alleging that they were attempting to tarnish the government's image. This claim was strongly refuted by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) and the Kenya Union of Journalists (KUJ).
Nonetheless, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and the Leader of the Majority in Parliament, Kimani Ichung'wah, have come forward to defend Kuria's claims, asserting that while there is freedom of the media, some outlets misuse that freedom, and journalists should be held accountable.
